About GridlockPHL
What is this?
GridlockPHL is an independent daily commuter report for Philadelphia. Every morning we publish a plain-English summary of road closures, construction, and commute disruptions across the city — for drivers, walkers, and cyclists.
No permit numbers. No jargon. Just: here's what's happening, here's where, and here's what to do about it.
How does it work?
Each morning our system pulls data from public sources including the City of Philadelphia's street closure permits, SEPTA bus detour alerts, and PennDOT's District 6 traffic bulletins. We translate all of it into plain English and publish the report by 6am.
Who's behind it?
GridlockPHL is an independent publication. We're not affiliated with the City of Philadelphia, PennDOT, SEPTA, or any government agency. We're just Philly commuters who wanted a better way to know what's happening before leaving the house.
Is it free?
Yes — completely free. You can subscribe to the daily newsletter to get the report in your inbox every morning.
Data sources
We draw from publicly available data including City of Philadelphia street closure permits via OpenDataPhilly, SEPTA real-time bus detour alerts, and PennDOT District 6 traffic bulletins. All disruptions link to original sources.
